Not bad until the author got to real-life examples, then the format of the book didn't work well for me. Also, this would have been much harder to understand if I hadn't already known something about Java.

Very simplistic book, ideal for beginners. The examples given were very academic.

On a personal note I was expecting a little more from this book. The first half was a refresher and the second half didn't deliver what I expected from reading the back of the book.

My first programming book, it taught me the general basic ideas of programming. A bit lacking on content compared to other brands, but very noob friendly. If Javascript is going to be your first programming language, this is book a good choice, but otherwise choose something with more content like the SAMS Teach Yourself series.

Not nearly as good as HTML 4 for the World Wide Web by Elizabeth Castro.
