I listened to the audiobook and that may have affected my overall view as I found the narrator a bit flat and the characters all sounded the same.

The book was probably a bit longer than it needed to be so the story felt stretched at times but overall this is worth a read and worthy of 3 stars

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This was a fast paced, suspenseful novel. It completely threw me for a loop and surpassed my expectations. Amy Shojai is a talented writer, I’d never have thought a book where two of the main characters were animals would make such an extraordinary novel but it does! September Day’s character development was steady throughout the novel, you could really grasp where she’s coming from. All in all a fantastic book, I’m so thrilled to have had the opportunity to read it. This will be another one of my favorite novels for 2012!… (plus d'informations)

This is the third book and it is still "I can't put it down" good. September has too many problems, but she rises to the occassion and her special animals and people also keep on surprising you with wll they accomplish. Love the fact or fiction at the end - a lot more is fact than fiction. Most characters are well developed, settings are realistic (in Texas anything can happen weather wise at about any time [I remember waking to huge snowflakes on Easter morning and going to church in an ordinary spring day just about an hour later]).

With her stalker finally caught, animal behaviorist September Day begins to trust again. She dares to hope Detective Combs might become more than a friend until his investigation into a dogfighting ring leaves her reeling.

Shadow wrestles his own demons. After losing his-boy to a health crisis, Shadow loves his new life with September. But now his-boy is back--and he's changed! Will Shadow be forced to choose?

When a desperate mom demands help and a cop's son disappears, September and Shadow must rescue the children before a devastating storm hits. But the kids have a secret plan of their own. Can they escape the killers and expose the deadly plan?

This is the second book I've read by by Amy Shojai and she never stops the action. There are stories within stories, real evil, really great animals (dogs and cats) mysteries, all you could want. At the end she lets you know what is true and what is fiction - loved that.

FROM AMAZON: A mysterious contagion will shatter countless lives unless a service dog and his trainer find a missing cat … in 24 hours.

A STALKER hides in plain sight.

A VICTIM faces her worst fear.

AND A DOG seeks the missing–and finds hope.

Eight years ago, animal behaviorist September Day escaped a sadistic captor who left her ashamed, terrified, and struggling with PTSD. She trusts no one–except her Maine Coon cat Macy and service dog Shadow.

Shadow also struggles with trust. A German Shepherd autism service dog who rescued his child partner only to lose his-boy forever, Shadow’s crippling fear of abandonment shakes his faith in humans.

September must solve an epidemic of Alzheimer’s-like symptoms, evade a relentless sadist from her past, and protect her chosen family from the killer. September has only 24 hours to uncover the truth about Macy’s mysterious illness or pay the deadly consequences.

When September learns to trust again, and a good-dog takes a chance on love, together they find hope in the midst of despair–and discover what family really means.
