Berta Serrano

I didn't know this was a book about adoption when I started reading it. I thought it was a really messed up "where do babies come from" kind of book! Then I got to the part where the parents-to-be got on a plane and I was like, "Ooooooooh." It's hard not to like a sweet book about adoptive parents meeting their child for the first time. This one is a bit unusual, but it's got a big heart (both figuratively and literally).

This book tells the story of a couple who adopts their first child. As the mother's heart swells with love, children can see how waiting for adoptive child is really no different than waiting for a pregnant woman to give birth. I think this book does a really great job of showing children how adoption can work. Though the language is simplistic, I think this book can be still used for 3rd-4th grade.
