Overall an excellent book - lots of background material, comparative mythology and cultural insights. However - too much PIE linguistics and way over complicated ritual reconstruction detract from it's overall usefulness. But only slightly - a worthy addition to any pagan/heathen shelf.

I'm not really prepared to write a full review, but I'll say two things about this book.

First off, it's a fascinating look at a thorough reconstructionist look at what little we can tell of the Proto-Indo-European culture, with lots of extrapolation and whole-cloth changes (which all make sense to me, by the way).

Second, it's heavily geared towards group work. Given the cultural basis, and the tendency in ADF (which is really the target audience for this book), that makes sense, but as someone who would like to integrate some of this into a personal solitary practice, it's very sparse.

Oh, and one thing this could use, and that could easily be added on re-print: Chapter titles in the table of contents. Right now, it just says Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc. I'll go through and write them in by hand in my copy, but it would be very useful to have them included.

A really great book to have for research and review. For those just starting out on the Path it provides a lot of suggestions and examples that sets the mind at ease. This is one of those books you can slip into your pocket or bag and carry with you so that when you feel the urge you can fin something inside it to fit the situation or to adapt to the situation.

A must have for Pagans.
