I didn't know if I liked the eldest Crockett sister, Amelia aka Mia, from the first book. She came off as very goal oriented and high strung. Did she know her stuff as a doctor, most definitely but as a warm caring person...not so much.

Here we find Mia back in NY, at work and get filled in a little more as to what goes on in Mia's world. Rory, sweet 10 yr old little boy, whom Mia met when she treated his mother. A mother who became hooked on prescription drugs and then had the misfortune to develop cancer while in jail. Rory brings out the human side of Mia and turns her into someone you can root for.

Now Mia is planning on getting a surgical residency that will enable her to fulfill her ultimate goal of getting the "dream job"....but when time comes her no-nonsense approach to doing things bites her in the behind. They are not only looking for a strong doctor but a compassionate one. One who could rally the troops and be a great leader. Mia has never been known as the soft and cuddly type so....there slips away the last step to her ultimate goal. Now what?

Back home, on a semi-forced vacation, Mia starts to find herself again. Gabe Harrison, whom we know from the first book, is the patient advocate that drove Mia crazy every time and anytime she tried to get information on her sister's Joely's medical condition, benefits, or treatment. Now though...with her life in the unknown she let's him in and learns, maybe he's not such a PITA after all. She meets his merry band of misfits, Veterans that has issues and he's come up with an experimental program to see if he can get them back on track. Mia bonds with them and teaches Gabe that maybe working with animals, in particular wild mustangs, might be the way to go with these tough cases.

At any rate, things happen...some tragic some just a part of life. But in the end we get our HEA. It's not a safe journey or even a all the time happy one. They go through bumps and bruises that every relationship gets from time to time; it just teaches them about themselves and what it is they want from one another. A good story that I well enjoyed and now am looking forward to reading Joely's story. (She's the sister involved in the horrible traffic accident that started the bonding between the sisters.)

Joely is the middle of the Crockett sisters. She was the one who when everything came crashing down after their father's death decided that with her mother's help she would take over Paradise Ranch and see if she could save it.

Coming home from California with her possessions in tow Joely and her mother, Bella, are involved in a horrific accident. Joely is left broken, physically and emotionally. Her soon to be ex-husband never checks on her. Her sister's take turns hovering over her. And all she wants to do is be left alone to wallow in whatever it is that is going on with her.

Enter Alec Morrissey....Gabe's good friend and best man. Joely's two older sisters have found love and decided in a show of unity to share their wedding day. Joely is Matron of Honor and is mortified that she is going to have to go through this in a wheelchair. (The former beauty queen in her has enough pride to not want to be pitied or babied.) This is when we meet Alec.

He's a former championship Bronc rider who lost part of his leg in Iraq. He has a prosthetic leg and scars on his soul that haven't quite healed yet. Immediately he sets Joely on edge with his words of wisdom and way of making her think about what she is doing and why. Joely half the time wants to know who the heck does this guy think he is talking to her like that and the other half wondering why bother, what's left for her?

He doesn't tell her right away just how he knows what she is going through and where his "wisdom" comes from. He too has kept his missing limb a secret from most people...doesn't want the pity or worse, revulsion he has seen in the eyes of others when they "get a load of his stump". But when Joely finds out about it....yup, it's emotional to say the least.

Now Alec starts getting ghosts of his past catching up with him. His good buddy and ex-rodeo buddy Vince connects with him to tell him of his acquiring the one bronc Alec could never master and referring to some tequila fueled silly bet made a long, long time ago. Joely and Alec fight a lot over this...why is it she has to face her past and yet he won't?

As with every romance we get our mending of broken hearts, broken families and broken dreams. Joely learns to stand on her own two feet, figuratively and literally, while Alec learns what trust is really about and how great forgiveness can be.

Not sure who the next story is about or when it's coming out so we'll just wait and see.

So in this first book we get to meet the Crockett (yes, they are ninth cousins twice removed from Davy) sisters. Amelia, Harper, Joely, Kelly, Grace, and Raquel.

They have all come home for their father's funeral and are told that they are in danger of losing the families cattle ranch. Grandma Sadie and Mama Bella have no interest or energy to try and get it back into good financial shape. They leave it to the girls to decide what's going to happen. Oh yea, you know you can't leave a decision like that to a group of emotional and opinionated women....much less sisters.

This story concentrates on Harper, second eldest and the misunderstood, never-accepted artist of the family. Who at times was so idealistic and stubborn I wanted to reach over and back hand her upside the back of her head. All this artist talk but not wanting to really put in any effort to save the ranch she was coming to miss. So busy running from her ghosts to stop and see she needed to be an active part in the resolution of what happens instead of standing on her soap box yelling for others to get things done...and get it done the right way.

We have Cole who is life long friend to all and one time boyfriend of Amelia (the eldest). Little did we expect that it's always been Harper he's really been attracted to. But sister code is in full effect here. He has his own dreams and concerns, he had been in negotiations with Sam Crockett to buy back his families ranch, the Double Diamond....now what's going to happen with that dream. If the girls sell will he even have a chance at it? Or if they lease land to the oil company to save the ranch will it cost him his families legacy seeing as the land with the most potential for a big strike is right where he called home.

It's a good story with drama of separations, car accidents and a cast of supporting characters that you come to think of as part of the Crockett family. Skylar is one kick butt 14 yr. old who once again reminds that sometimes kids do get "it" a little more than adults and when they speak their minds, they take no prisoners.

It wraps up nicely with our happily ever after and a glimpse into the next sister's story...the bossy, organized Amelia. The surgeon with a goal and no one is going to stand in her way. Can't wait to read the next book.

With her Seven Brides for Seven Cowboys series, Lizbeth Selvig has created story lines that are uplifting, entertaining and compelling. I have had the pleasure of reading The Bride Wore Denim (#1) and The Bride Wore Red Boots(#2). Ms. Selvig has centered these stories around two women that to the outside world appear sure of themselves and focused. Yet underneath it all are the normal human flaws. Insecurities, unhappiness, and longing for something more.
A visit home proves to be just the medicine. It opens up new opportunities in life and love. I received an ARC of The Bride Wore Red Boots in exchange for an honest review.… (plus d'informations)
