For years, the Spiritual Exercises that St. Ignatius of Loyola taught have been a model for spiritual retreats, spiritual direction and a vehicle for many in learning how to develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. Much has been written but often it was cumbersome and too much for the average lay person. Dan Schutte has distilled the essence of St. Ignatius's teachings into 30 easy to use exercises. It's helped me to empty myself so I could listen to God, to understand what "discernment" means, to pray with an uncluttered mind and to see God in all things.
