- Konstanze von Schulthess-Rechberg is the youngest of the five children of Nina Schenk Gräfin (Countess) von Stauffenberg and her husband Claus Schenk Graf(Count) von Stauffenberg. Count von Stauffenberg was an aristocratic German Army officer who served as one of the leaders of the anti-Nazi resistance effort to overthrow Hitler known as the 20 July 1944 Plot. He was executed when the military coup failed. Countess von Stauffenberg was pregnant at the time and gave birth to Konstanze while imprisoned by the Nazis. The children were taken away from her, given a new surname, and sent to an orphanage. They were reunited at the end of World War II. In 2008, Konstanze published a biography of her mother that became a bestseller.
