It is a bummer when a character magically loses weight when she gets an upstairs job that requires less actual labor than her previous job. It is also a bummer when authors use weight and weight changes to signify class changes, beauty, and goodness.

Cute! Great plucky girl adventure, in an original fantasy/ fairy tale environment. The princess is a bit of a spoiled weenie, but I guess you work with what your kingdom has, and Darling is doing the work.

A nice little rice pudding of a book. The main character lucks into the magic, accomplishes very little, and events would apparently have panned out much the same way without her involvement at all, which suggests a plotting problem (I'm reminded of The Big Bang Theory episode where Amy pointed out that Indiana Jones was superfluous to the events in Raiders of the Lost Arc, ultimately). Still, it's good-natured and calming.

I was probably most annoyed that (a) the author saddled the main character with such a ridiculous name that it no doubt knocked the book back a couple of grades in appeal, and (b) that our hero managed to keep up with her work duties in addition to quite a bit of time skulking around in disguise.

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s).

This is a children's book, and very well written. It was full of magic and adventure and a closet full of enchanted dresses. What young girl wouldn't enjoy all that.

Darling Dimple is a girl who has grown up inside an enchanted castle, working deep down in the castle kitchen. She will eventually find herself moving up into the upper floors as a presser for the princess. Here she will discover a closet full of dresses that instantly transform her into someone else when she tries them on. She will also discover a plot by someone to take over the castle. She will find herself on an adventure as she sets out to help save the Princess and the castle. Very well written and full of adventure.… (plus d'informations)
