Alaskan writer Eva Saulitis was a marine biologist, who studied the killer whales of Prince William Sound, Kenai Fjords and the Aleutian Islands since 1986. She received a M.S. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1993 and a MFA from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1996. She was the afficher plus author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, but became dissatisfied with the objective language and rigid methodology of science and turned to creative writing. Her books include two collections of poetry entitled Many Ways to Say It and Prayer in Wind, a collection of essays entitled Leaving Resurrection: Chronicles of a Whale Scientist, and two memoirs entitled Into Great Silence: Discovery and Loss Among Vanishing Orcas and Becoming Earth.
