Courte biographie
Dianne K. Salerni lives in Chester County, Pennsylvania with her husband, Bob, her two daughters, Gabrielle and Gina — when they’re not at college — and her mischievous cats, Luna and Merlin. She graduated from St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington, Delaware and attended the University of Delaware and the University of Pennsylvania before taking a job teaching in the Avon Grove School District. She taught fourth and fifth grade there for 25 years.

Now retired from teaching, Dianne spends her free time hanging around creepy cemeteries and climbing 2000 year-old pyramids in the name of book research. She loves visiting the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, especially to ski. Since the death of her family’s beloved German Shepherd, Sorcia, she has been volunteering at her local rescue animal center, CompAnimals, walking dogs and taking them on outings.

Dianne’s first novel, We Hear the Dead, is a YA historical based on the real story of 19th century teenage spirit mediums Maggie and Kate Fox. We Hear the Dead was the inspiration for the Canadian-produced short film, The Spirit Game, which premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Her second novel, another YA historical, The Caged Graves, is a Junior Library Guild Selection and was inspired by two real caged graves in an abandoned Pennsylvania cemetery.

Great recommendation for a middle grade reader who loves mystery and creepy fun stories.
First line of the book: “You’d think spitting up frogs would be a lot like the worst stomach flu you’ve ever had, but it’s surprisingly different.”
Awesome storytelling, love it when an author nails the middle grade voice.

This book is bursting with fantasy themes for teens. There is magic based in the powers of precious and seiprecious stones, time travel, an old house with powers and a family that seems to function without batting an eye. Garnet and her mom go to the homestead and think that the old family patriarh stays alive by sapping the vitality of other family members even leading to death occasionally. A good starter book for young fantasy fans.

This was a really spooky, exciting good time! It has an awful lot of probable murder for a middle grade book, but it's such a thrilling, magic, ghostly adventure that I cannot complain. I have never seen the T.V. show Dark Shadows, myself, but my mother was a huge fan, and when the author mentioned being inspired by her own avid childhood viewing of that show it was so obvious, I recognized the influence just from my mom talking about it. Similar in tone to the Lockwood & Co. books, tons of fun.… (plus d'informations)

This book was better than I expected, and if I'd read this as a teenager, I'd have completely adored it. Well, to be honest, I did, even at 37, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Interesting ideas (seriously - an eighth day of the week that only certain people know about! lovely!), likable characters and an exciting adventure. Great stuff all round!
