Links in the Chain of European History is quite the expansive work despite its rather nimble size, this non fiction book covers the major events commencing in Roman Europe all the way through to King William II of Germany declaring war on Russia after the failed ultimatum from Austria-Hungary to Serbia and the resolution of said war, being world war 1, with the collapse of Russia and surrender of Germany.
It's quite a good picture of the tug of war that happened between England-France-Prussia/Germany-Holland-Russia throughout history and the manoeuvres the royal houses & European countries performed whilst trying to gain the upper hand and/or stabilise their own backyards.
Whilst it is by no means in depth it does give a good overview of the course of events and provides a good starting point for further research into specific areas of European history that the reader may find of interest.
