High school English teacher in Pioneer, OH, 1968-71; Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH, instructor, 1971-77, lecturer in English, 1979-80; Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI, assistant professor, 1980-85, associate professor, 1985-90, professor of English, 1990—, president of academic senate, 1990-92. Michigan Council for the Humanities, scholar of Humanities Resource Center, 1986-98; Humanities Council of West Central Michigan, vice president, 1989-90; workshop presenter. I was disappointed with this standard textbook for undergraduate children's literature class. The text authors cannot decide if reading objectionable elements will negatively affect the children reading them (they say no, unless it's chauvinistic or racial stereotypes.) I thought the book lists were weak (a list of Newbery awards would be cheaper and about the same content), and they were not annotated, a fact which could have redeemed the book entirely. Honey for a Child's Heart would be a better choice, since its lists are annotated and more complete.… (plus d'informations)
