This was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed as it was loaded with action packed bloodfest of horror! What an extreme ride into terror!

Halloween is slowly approaching for Autumn Creek citizens, but what they don't know is that Prank Night has arrived as well for the days leading up to Halloween. These are not normal pranks as there is something far more sinister associated with what happens to the people in the community.

The beginning of the pranks is when all the town experiences slashed tires on their vehicles, but when a woman is murdered in a grisly fashion that is when a chain of events starts the most horrific escapade into the town of Autumn Creek. Pranksters dressed in Halloween costumes terrorizes the town and the citizens find out what true terror is as the pranks turn into murders.

Who are the pranksters? Why have they targeted Autumn Creek? What is the purpose of the pranks? What is Prank Night? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book!

The book started out a little slow though with the first murder, but there was a little bit of a back story for certain citizens in the town. Once I got past the story building of the characters which took up a few chapters, then the pranks went into high gear and every chapter from then on there was something happening.

The pace picked up and then the gore started flying as the bodies started piling up. I wasn't expecting such a gory extreme book, but that is what I found the more I delved within the pages of the book. This book kept me up half the night reading it as I could not put it down!

I have found another author to add to my list of horror authors and I will be looking forward to reading more books by this author. Giving this book five "grisly" stars!… (plus d'informations)

Pillowface ist die neuste Veröffentlichung von Festa in der Reihe Horror und Thriller, erschienen als Nummer 137. Dieses Buch ist das zweite, das bei Festa erscheint. Das erste Buch habe ich leider selbst noch nicht lesen können.

Haley und Joel haben ihre Eltern verloren vor ein paar Monaten. Die beiden Geschwister leben nun alleine unter einem Dach und versuchen irgendwie mit dem Geschehenen klar zu kommen. Haley arbeitet, und Joel hat Sommerferien und verbringt die Zeit zu Hause. Eines Tages findet er im Hof einen blutverschmierten Mann mit einer Maske auf. Er hilft ihm seine Verletzungen zu verarzten, und bietet ihm ein Bett im Keller an. Er freundet sich mit dem Mann an, und stellt fest, das er ein Killer ist, der genau wie seine Film-Lieblinge die Menschen „um die Ecke bringt“ und lässt sich in seinen Sog der Gewalt hinein ziehen…

Auf dem Cover sieht man nur zwei Hände, die ein großes Messer halten und bereit sind zum zustechen. Das Cover ist für mich sehr gelungen, es zeigt nicht zuviel, und nicht zuwenig. Thriller-Fans werden hier bestimmt bedenkenlos zugreifen.

Bewertung
Das Buch beginnt direkt mit der Vorstellung von Pillowface, was er so tut und wie er es tut. Ein wenig Gewalt am Anfang eines Thrillers der von einem Serienkilller/Slasher handelt sollte da dann doch wenig störend wirken. Man lernt auch recht schnell die anderen Protagonisten des Buches kennen, Joel und seine größere Schwester Hailey, die irgendwie versucht ein Mutterersatz für Joel zu sein. Die weiteren Charaktere die vorkommen sind ebenso gut mit kleineren Ausnahmen. Kanonenfutter braucht man halt nicht allzu groß vorstellen. Alles in allem sind die Charaktere in Pillowface klasse, jeder von ihnen ist in sich schlüssig und handelt meistens nachvollziehbar.

Es werden 2 verschiedene Storylines erzählt. Einmal was Joel mit seinem neuen Freund so widerfährt und was Hailey erlebt wenn sie nicht zu Hause ist. Das beides irgendwann zusammen führt ist von vornherein klar. Das macht es aber auch spannend, da man absolut nicht abschätzen kann was man nun zu erwarten hat.

Teilweise hätte die Story für mich etwas schneller voran schreiten können, aber da ist schon Kritik auf hohem Niveau. Mir persönlich fällt ansonsten nichts direkt ins Auge, das für mich nicht passt. Ich kann von daher fast eine uneingeschränkte Leseempfehlung abgeben.

Kristopher Rufty legt hier einen Psychothriller mit einigen Gewaltspitzen vor, die aber nicht zu extrem sind. Da sind Festa-Leser doch schon einige mehr gewohnt. Mir hat der Roman gut gefallen, mit dem Ende hätte ich auch so nicht gerechnet wie es passiert ist. Der Roman zeigt, wir kaputt die Psyche von manchen Menschen sein kann. Warum das so ist, will ich aber nicht vorweg nehmen, sonst würde ich spoilern.

If you're looking for something with a unique take on classic 80's slasher horror, Kristopher Rufty's Something Violent is a must read. Imagine a social media site like Facebook, but with a targeted demographic of murderers and you have Something Violent, a site dedicated to the worst of the darkest, most disturbed minds roaming the world. Here, people come together to share the grisly details and even video footage of their feats - even going so far as to trade off partners in a grotesque version of swinging.

In Something Violent, the main characters aren't victims struggling to save their own hides, but rather a couple that is aptly named Satan's Sweethearts. Together they wreak havoc, slaughtering those that cross them. When their marriage seems at risk of falling apart, they kidnap a famous marriage counselor and recount the events that brought them together in grisly detail.

I think what I liked most about this book was its perspective - I couldn't help but feel disgusted with myself for feeling any amount of sympathy for a pair of murderers, but I suppose in this case, the saying that "anything is possible" rings true. While the book wasn't quite as gory as I would have liked, it certainly kept my interest.

On the other hand, it felt a little too sexualized. Of course, being a fan of the horror genre, this is an aspect of my taste in fiction that I have become accustomed to. Any true horror buff knows that the couple having sex will be one of the first to die after all. While it makes sense for one character to be sexually attracted to another, and go into detail about how and why, there are a few areas where I felt the sexual notes to be a bit too extreme and out of place. For instance, there's a moment where Jody Covington, one of the main characters, thinks to herself about how slick her thighs are with sweat.

Aside from that, Something Violent offers an entertaining insight into the lives of killers and is definitely worth the read. I have to give Rufty kudos for pulling off the normalization of serial killers.

I'm generally not a fan of home invasion story lines, I have read so many that I have become bored with them. Most seem to merge into each other creating a been there read it already feel but I was completely drawn into this one right from the start. The chilling atmosphere and descriptive scenes really captured my attention, I could picture everything so clearly.

I initially picked up Desolation with the intention of reading a chapter or two before sleeping but ended up reading it in one sitting. It's a perfect mixed bag of suspense, tension, horror and chilling emotional scenes that will keep you turning the pages eager to know what happens next.

There are twists a plenty to be found here and some grisly goings on that will satisfy many a horror lover. But, at the same time it's a heartbreaking and emotional tale of revenge and loss and the two intertwine nicely to induce not only fear and anticipation but also heartbreak and sympathy for the characters within the story. It's quite a roller-coaster of a ride. One minute you're grabbing onto the rails dreading what's round the corner, the next you're reaching for the hanky and full of remorse for disliking the characters previously.
