An illustrated collection of excerpts, stories and a few poems. It's a mixture of iconic classics and authors who were popular in the '90s when this was published.

There are excerpts from several stories I read as a kid - Seven Little Australians, The Magic Pudding, The Muddle-headed Wombat, Pigs Might Fly, The Cabbage Patch Fib, Storm Boy and John Brown, Rose and the Midnight Cat, and a few other things I might have read, but over half the the stories were things I definitely hadn't read before. (Although a lot of those authors and illustrators had familiar names.)

Some of the excerpts standalone better than others. A few feel more like the start of a story than a complete episode - a taster to encourage one to seek out the rest of the book. Some just end abruptly or without any resolution.

And a few reminded me that I am not this collection's target audience.
