Esmond Romilly died in his early 20s after an intense career, which began in his schooldays, as an anti-fascist political activist and fighter. See two books about him: The Short Life of Esmond Romilly by Kevin Ingram and Friends Apart: A Memoir of Esmond Romilly and Jasper Ridley by Philip Toynbee. He married Jessica Mitford, one of the six famous Mitford sisters, with whom he had a daughter.
