This strikes me as one of the more significant booklets in this series in awhile. Though these weapons were a legend in their own time, their origins, organization, and the reasons for their ultimate demise have been rather vague. The key point of the authors is that while these guns did spectacularly fulfill their mission statement at the start of the war, their useful window of opportunity was rather limited, in that efforts to make them less vulnerable to counter-battery fire by increasing their effective range ultimately failed.… (plus d'informations)
