I think I'm going to roll over and die when Papercutz actually serializes something I end up really enjoying.

This volume was all over the place. It started off trying to establish to rich fantasy setting and then pinballed to a typical school setting. I'm not even sure how the fantasy is supposed to tie into the plot to begin with. The characters are rushed in introduction and seemingly serve no purpose besides "hilarious" filler involving school escapades and bullies. They make a few mentions of Sybil's future purpose in the fantasy world, but they're weak at best, and uninteresting at worst. I have absolutely no incentive to pick up a second volume of this mess, and I don't know why anyone else apart from a child would, either.

Also, please kill pseudo-anime art styles in American graphic novels. They're so hard to get down and rarely look good.

Art – 5 stars
Story- 3 stars
Overall – 3.5 stars – A good continuation – I’m still of the opinion more pages are needed for a beefier story.

Continuing Nina’s adventures in this magical world – she almost gets drowned by that evil girl Laurie in her class and that later gets tricked by this bad fairy Amanite into following her. Amanite turns her into a mermaid and trouble soon follows. I believe there is a theme here of contrary behavior. It’s common knowledge that you don’t say thank you to fairies…so Sybil is missing from the bulk of this volume because she broke that rule. Thankfully, we learn a few more clues as to why Sybil might be in Nina’s life. Also – there is a very entertaining little ongoing game of groaning dice being played by Sybil’s sidekick Pandigole, the sweet guzzling monster – I love how they start off each volume with it!… (plus d'informations)

Something is brewing in fairyland and it seems Nina is the key to much of it. There is an evil army massing against them and still Sybil is doing Nina’s homework. I can’t say I condone what that message is saying. If we could skip the school portions entirely I would be so much happier with this comic. There was a lot of movement in this one volume alone towards finding out why Nina’s mom is a single mother, what really happened to Nina’s dad, and what involvement is expected of Nina from the fairies!

Art – 5 stars – Still as adorable as ever
Story – 3 stars – The fairy storyline has definitely improved.
Overall – 4 stars – Skip the school sections and this would be the strongest volume yet!

Nina seems to get into trouble a lot both at home and at school. One day a little fairy makes a home in her backpack and starts helping her with everything. This is the part that I felt was a bit weak – I didn’t like that she would clean things up for Nina and do her homework/give her answers. However, even though she did do these things for Nina, Nina would still get into trouble. So indeed there is still a lesson there. I wish there were more pages in the volume so they could have given you more of an idea about why Sybil is really with Nina. I didn’t like that you didn’t even get much of a clue to that piece at all. But there are more volumes to come! I enjoyed their escapades and the adorable artwork. I think little girls ages 7 to 12 will gobble this up.

Art – 5 stars – Adorable and cartoony with cutesy monsters – Love it!
Story – 2.5 stars
Overall – 3 stars – A cute cartoon art style with an interesting starter storyline that could have been a bit stronger
