High-Ranking Widows in Medieval Iceland and… par Philadelphia Ricketts
Philadelphia Ricketts' prosopographical study of some 75 widows from high medieval Iceland and Yorkshire provides a useful comparative study of the lives of women in two linked yet disparate regions. Ricketts writes cleanly, though I think the book could have benefited from being 50, if not 100, pages shorter. Her overall points about high-ranking women's power, agency, and identity are largely persuasive, although I might quibble with some of her use of sources.
