I debated on a 3* or 4* and gave it a 4 *.
I think this book is much too detailed for a child. I did get information for my research. Working with a child makes it a good reference book.
I do genealogy and for the NaNoWriMo April Camp, I chose to write a kid's book on genealogy. I do not expect to publish. Mine would bring it more to the level of a younger child and more personal research.
I got my copy from my library, but the cost is only $14.00 US.

I loved this book for fourth and fifth grade. I think it is incredibly intriguing and is a great science prove/ attention-getter. This could be a great individual read OR read-aloud that we do as a class and read about one THING each day. There is a large number of words on each page so could be a difficult read for some students, but some blurbs are small enough and pictures for the support that it is not boring. I think this is a great book that describes how certain everyday things (or not everyday things) work. How Things Work by T.J. Resler is a fun and exciting book for students to enjoy in an educational way. The author makes use of labels on illustrations to assist readers in comprehending the different parts of objects, such as airplanes and trains. The author also uses highlighting to bring attention to key vocabulary in the text. This is a beneficial science text to use in the classroom because of the clear and explicit explanation of the way objects work.
