- Anne Elizabeth Rector attended the Art Students League of New York, studying under John French Sloan, one of the founders of the Ashcan school, and landscape painting with Andrew Dasburg. She married Edmund Duffy, and editorial cartoonist. Her childhood diaries, found many years after her death, were published in 2004.

This is a lovely book. Beautifully illustrated with photographs and the diarist's own drawings. I appreciated the sidebars that explained some of the content. Wonderful to read a child's passion and to see those around her try to help her to achieve her goals. I was grateful for the afterward that told us the rest of her life.
