Martin remembered as a kid seeing the words “white only” everywhere, his mother told him “you are just as good as anyone”.

Became a minister like his Father to use those big words for good.

Rosa Park’s arrest angered them and decided not to ride buses until they could sit anywhere they wanted.
For 381 days they walked, Martin walked with them.
Followed along for 10 years fighting for their rights.

“Love is the key to the problems of the world” was Martin’s response to violence.

Through the threats and bombing of him and his brothers house he refused to stop: “Remember if I am stopped, this movement will not be stopped, because God is with this movement”.

After 10 years and Martin’s “I have a dream speech” the WHITE ONLY signs came down.

In 1964 he won the Nobel Peace Prize for teaching others to fight with words, not fists.

Went to Tennessee in April 1968 to help garbage collectors on strike, he was shot and died the 2nd day there.

Big words are alive today.

This is an impactful book written with story portions and directly below it are quotes from Martin Luther King Jr (the first is from his mom).

It goes from his childhood to his death, and emphasizes the difference he made through his peaceful protest.

The story begins with King’s childhood experience of seeing “White Only” signs in his hometown, highlighting his journey as a civil rights leader. As a child, King listened to his minister father’s “big words” and promised to inspire others with such words when he grew up. The book’s final sentence, “His big words are alive for us today,” speaks to King’s success and legacy we respect to this day.

The illustrations allow the reader to "see" the big words come to life. Martin Luther King's life and impact is so important to our country's history, but this can be lost on younger kids. This book makes Martin's story accessible to all elementary students.… (plus d'informations)

Ellen Ochoa grew up loving to learn. In addition to playing flute, she went on to earn advanced degrees in science and have three patents to her name by age 30. When NASA began accepting women and minorities to its space program, Ellen applied. By the end of her career, she was the first Latina in space, made four flights into space, worked aboard the International Space Station and became the first Latino director of the Johnson Space Center.
