Enjoyable horror stories where the terror comes from the unknown and surreal more than fear of harm. Didn't think I'd like this collection so much after the first two stories, which were written well enough but a bit campy and clichéd, but things just got weirder and more unique from there. "The Warm House" intrigued me the most -- it has a very dreamy/druggy quality to it and some of the descriptions border on the incomprehensible, definitely a head trip. Reminded me of JG Ballard a bit.

I read books as an escape. These days there is nothing but hate and fake news and political crap everytime I turn on the tv or look at social media. This book sounded like a fun short read...again just to escape for an hour or so. What do I find....Trump bashing in a humor/horror book! The only reason I didn't DNF it is because I finish whatever I start. I purchased other books from this author and have reservations if they will ever get read. Wished I had read this one first before buying the others. Label your books political if you want to go there.… (plus d'informations)

Connor and Steven are a father and son living together in the sleepy town of Gethsemane, Ohio after the death of Steven's mother (Connor's ex-wife.) Steven is the expectedly outcast teen character and is pretty much a loner until he first sees Elise, a girl he adores.

Together, the two walk night after night, occasionally contemplating the rash of suicides that has overtaken their school like a virus. Steven is somewhat prophetic in that he's written several things in his notebook, even before they happen. He keeps those details to himself as he tries to figure out what the names of the dead kids, the word Obscura, and the Jackthief story have to do with what's happening around him.

Events unfold as the deaths continue and take an occult twist. Plenty of horrific scenes sure to keep you looking for ghosts and spiders add to this well written, creepy tale that while it isn't 'the norm' in terms of content, is certainly refreshingly inventive.
