A lovely book showing the often strong relationship between artists and their mothers.
The author did a pretty good job covering different eras and artist styles with a nice background and examples of the artist life and relationship with their mothers as well as beautiful color plates depicting their works. The quality of the paper is excellent and I love how the color plates are each a full page instead of splitting the image between two pages which is often done.
I found it interesting how some artists only got a few paragraphs for their biographies while others had multiple pages, I could not tell if this was because some just had more information about them and their mothers or if there was a preference for these artist by the author as even the short biographies were well written and gave you a feel for their relationships and influences on each other.
Not an in-depth book but an excellent sampling of artist works and their lives. This would make a wonderful Mothers Day gift for an art loving mother.… (plus d'informations)
