I'm always on board for well-told biographies of women in the civil rights movement. The telling on this one captured her strength.

It's a simple biography. Not something for young grades more for high school but still a good book to read.

This is a biography about Josephine Baker What i personally like about this book is that is showcases her highs and lows. She was doing so well she bought a leopard, she was grateful to France so she volunteered for the war, she adopted 12 children from all different parts of the world and called them her rainbow tribe in order to prove that the color of skin doesn't matter. It also showcased that she wanted an extreme lavish lifestyle to the point where she was spending more money than she was bringing in and she lost her home.
When she died, she was mourned and celebrated in Paris.
This is the second book I've read this year, where a Black performer is celebrated in France better than they would have ever been in the United States.
I read this as an Ebook and I think the layout was a little strange.
(It is important to note that this book isn't written by a Black author.)

What a life! Josephine Baker was more than a dance. I found it amazing that she used these talents to spy on Nazis! She adopted 12 kids--her rainbow tribe. She said "children of different races can grow up together as brothers." How I wish more people believed this statement to be true.

"Life is a series of summits and behind each crest looms another peak to be scaled"
