A really enjoyable journey through the Boxgrove excavations through the eyes of the archaeologists as they grew in experience through the 80s and 90s. One of the great excitements in recent years, along with feathered dinosaur finds, has been our growing understanding of early hominids and their sophistication. Excellent, well written and insightful overview of some of the most important recent archeological excavations across Britain. A great way to find out key information about the current state of knowledge across millennia of history and prehistory. Great guidance on further reading. Highly recommended.

A little outdated, science has moved on, it even moved on between the first and second edition of the book. But a very good history of archaeology and a synthesis of ideas of Stonehenge and Avebury and other Hengeworld sites

For me, this was a good balance between the conversational and the technical, as the author explains how our current best knowledge of Stonehenge acts to constrain the possible methods by which the site might have been created.
