“Stars and Other Monsters” is a well-written story that could fall into a category of its own. Personally, I enjoy the strange and diverse, and this novel did not disappoint. There were moments near the end where the action may have gotten away from Phronk. This resulted in slow-paced reading for fast-paced action, but then Phronk delivered a sucker-punch twist that I never saw coming.
The writing style was fun and clear, and though the story leaned towards a 6 on a Kinsey-esque scale of the bizarre, it was not over-the-top eccentric. Yup, ANOTHER vampire book...is what I thought when I first started this and at the end I was so glad I didn't just pass it up. It;s a funny mix of vampires, stars, and dogs oh my! I totally recommend this to anyone who wants a vampire who's not a moody self loathing forever teen.
