This is a younger readers science fiction story churned out to appeal to the growing mass market of literate children, the product of the late Victorian and Edwardian period. A gentiler time before the horror of the first world war that would change their lives forever.
More science fantasy / planetary romance, with elfs and giants populating the moon and planets rather than anything we would expect to find in alien stories today. In fact if not for the setting of outer space it would have been a pure fairytale adventure; and there is nothing wrong with that. Expect lots of helpless maidens, black slaves and over inflated egos and unbound arrogance masquerading as chivalry.
