This is my first time reading this author and definitely won't be my last. Especially, as the sneak peek at the end of the next book with other characters has DEFINITELY piqued my interest.
In regards to this story, it started out a little slow for me. It took me a little bit to connect with the characters. It really wasn't until a certain scene with Duke that I completely was all in. There were some topics that were brought up, that may be triggering for some, but were handled with care and consideration. I appreciated that. I did want to murder Ashton a few times with his back and forth but once I got his whole backstory it all made sense. I completely enjoyed Emma and all her Neurosises. She was relatable and I enjoyed that.
I was super excited when I heard that JL Perry was going to write a book in the Cocky Hero Club. As I've loved all of the previous books she has written.
Oh boy what a book! Hard hitting subjects, off the charts chemistry and likable characters. What's not to like. This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I just couldn't put it down. No adulting was done, until I read the very last page, oops
Jade had a rough childhood, was adopted by a wealthy woman and was given almost all that money could buy. She was not given love, affection or freedom. Brock was born into wealth, was a chick-magnet and ran a multi-million-dollar business. He never got the love and respect from his father that he desired. Jade and Brock meet in an airport, spend a bit of time together in New York and then Jade disappears. They meet again and fireworks begin to occur in more ways than one.
The characters were well developed. The story was complete with no cliff hangers or unexplained issues. Brock and Jade were gorgeous on the outside and good people on the inside. They had issues to contend with individually and together and managed to do so without losing themselves. The book is told in first person alternating between the viewpoints of Brock and Jade (not my favorite story telling style). Brock and Jade provide an interesting story and I hoped as I read that they would get and enjoy their happily ever after. I have to confess that I am not sure how Jade could experience instant attraction to Brock coming from the background she had.
This is my first book by Ms Perry and I enjoyed it. It made me wonder if predators like “M” are in the system and if so how they can be eradicated. There was a lot going on in the story but it was all tied together well and the supporting characters were a nice addition.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Australia for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.… (plus d'informations)
This is the first book that I've read by Ms. Perry and I loved it. The story of Carter, who has taken the unfortunate 'Bastard' name to heart all his life, moves with his mom to live next door to Indie, a beautiful feisty, young woman who changes his life, no matter how much he tries to alienate her. The story is a pleasure to read, definitely a page turner, I won't give to much away, just say that it will bring you tears of joy and there's plenty of emotional moments that will pull at your heart. It's a wonderful read. This is not a book to be missed, I highly recommend it. 5/5… (plus d'informations)
