Interesting. I had not realized how many women were suspected of being serial killers in the 19 century. I say suspected as "serial killer" is a term not really used in the 19th century and the women were usually not convicted of all the murders they were thought to have committed. Poison seems to have been the weapon of choice and, without the technology of today, hard to prove. I also suspect that people were reluctant to accept a woman would be guilty of committing so many murders. Reading through these you see a lot of women murdered their own children. Even today we are shocked and reluctant to accept that a mother would do that. I find it interesting that, in my opinion, people were more open to suspecting a female as the killer in the 19th century as opposed to now. Men as serial killers are much more acceptable though as the author shows there were many women capable and willing to commit murder.
This is a fast read. Editing would improve it but I still found the book interesting.… (plus d'informations)
