This was a quick and easy read though the topic wasm't easy to handle. I agree with the previous reader that this is not as good as Dave's book and her reasons but I did like to read it. It was interesting to see how things changed when Dave left. This woman was so cruel and that is putting it lightly. It is amazing these men did not grow up to be serial killers or something. I hope to eventually read the rest of their books and see how they recovered when they finally got away from her. I wish this book had gone a bit longer into Richards life. The ending left us hanging. I didn't like that at all.… (plus d'informations)

The ending to this book is total crap! At least at the end of "A CHILD CALLED IT" you knew how he got away from his mom and the abuse from her stopped. This just ends. It was almost like he was setting the reader up to have to buy his next book in order to find out what happened to him.

I read this, after reading A Child Named It, wanting to get some explanation about this woman's mental condition. Mostly this memoir focuses on the son's difficult journey to a meaningful life. A bit rambly, but important stuff.

Granted, I did not read his previous book "A Brother's Jouney", I had read his brother's book "A Child Called It." After reading his brother's book, I found this one a bit anti-climatic. It was not nearly as detailed with the happenings and I had a hard time relating to it other than his own therapy reflecting back on his own life to heal his heart and soul after turning to a life of alcohol, drugs and meaningless sex after growing up with an alcoholic, abusive mother.
