Lynn Pearce

I'm surprised that I haven't seen this book before but I guess that illustrates how difficult it is to market something like this. I live in Rozelle and I'm interested in a book like this that documents the local environment, the shops , the pubs and the businesses.It's interesting that it's actually taken somebody from outside (from the UK) to see Rozelle through a foreigner's eye and pick out the interesting things here. The book was published in 2015 and already some things have changed remarkably. Piccolo's Cafe has changed hands, at least three times and undergone renovations and a change of name a couple of times. And many of the other subjects have gone similar transformations. Still, it is an interesting snapshot in time. And I was especially interested in the number of places that used to be pubs but were closed down in the "Reduction Vote of 1909".......one of them is just down the road from me and used to be known as Floods Hotel and later Easton Park Hotel. Right now it's up for redevelopment as part of the new WestConnex parkland which sits over a massive underground interchange for vehicles.
Rozelle, is not the most photogenic of suburbs and I admire Lynn Pearce's eye in bringing out the interest that is latent. Not many sweeping landscapes or great views of the harbourr but lots of interesting angles of buildings and happenings...like the Rozelle and Orange Grove markets. I like the book and happy to give it four stars.… (plus d'informations)
