Aces is a step beyond the standard Squadron/Signal offering. Its theme is Aces, particularly flying Aces of both world wars and Korea. Though the book is driven by fliers, there is a nod to German tank ace Michael Wittman, and his Tiger I is illustrated in the book. Each of the aces included in the book is given a quick biographical sketch, and color illustrations of his aircraft is included. These include well known figures like Pappy Boyington and Manfred von Richtofen, and many less well known such as Roger Sauvage who flew Yak-3's in the Soviet Air Force and Edmond Meslee who flew Hawk 75's in the Battle of France.
The plates are numerous, clearly the attraction of the book. Most are side view only, but there are also seventeen three views of a wide variety of aircraft from a Fokker DR1 to a North Korean MiG-15.
