This book would be great for an English class or a social studies classroom. You could use this book to introduce a lesson on symbolism. Why the students might think the eagle represents America and can the students use context clues to see what the book is saying about America?

As a dog lover, I enjoyed this book for two reasons: The plain brown dog was taken care of by the generous people of West Hampton Beach and he finally finds a forever home with Eli.

Strawberry Dog is about a plain brown dog that is free to roam around the main street of West Hampton Beach during the summer. He enjoys his time with the owners of the different shops on Main Street. One day, Eli came to the beach for some rest and relaxation. They instantly bonded and spent the rest of the summer together. Eli had to move back to New York after the summer ended, but quickly realized what he was leaving behind. Eli went back to West Hampton and he and the plain brown dog settled down in their forever home. The plain brown dog found his home and was named Sam.

Paraskevas shows the true meaning of having an unbreakable bond of friendship. Even if it is between a man and his dog.

The book was about a ferocious beast who was trying to eat a pig. The pig tricked the beast into not eating him by telling the beast that his diet was causing him to loose his spots. At the end of the story the pig and the beast became great friends. The theme of the book was friendship. This book would be good to read to children when studying rhyming words.
