Ariella Papa

This was a nice book to pass the time with. I honestly wasn't that invested in it while I was reading though. The book consists of three POVs and things don't sync up between the three characters for a while. I ended up only liking two out of the three stories honestly. I liked he characters of Ruth (new mom) and Kirsten (hippish) and didn't care for Claudia at all (I heard this term the other week, she's a mommy blogger).

The main plot is about how three women approach motherhood and marriage or in Kirsten's place, how to deal with a long term partnership. I think Kirsten was my favorite out of h three women. She's dealing with a son who rather be called a girl, a boyfriend who is distant, and two other kids while trying to make money in her family portrait business that leaves her unfilled.

Ruth is a new mother who I would say is suffering from postpartum depression. She is second guessing herself and doesn't know if she can handle going back to work.

Claudia is a mother of twins and lives a life that you would see in GOOP magazine. That's not a compliment. When she starts to wonder about what she's missed out on due to bring focused on goals she has been told all her life to try to achieve, her life is thrown for a loop.

I thought the writing was very good. I have to say the flow wasn't that great though. I think until the three women started to interact more signatures it each other, this red as three distinct stories. Also due to plot, I ended up disliking Claudia a lot based on what Papa did with her character.

The setting of New York worked well with this story. What better than New York to show a bunch of faceless women in competition with each other to be a good mother, partner/wife.

The ending fell a lot flat though. I think Papa wanted to wrap things in a bow. However, due to what came before, it just didn't read as realistic to me. Not that interested in reading the sequel.… (plus d'informations)
