I only read the Patty Briggs story in this one, but maybe I’ll eventually loop back to this collection. I like to get a taste of different fantasy authors’ work, and collections like this give me a quick way to do it.

I hadn’t read “Unappreciated Gifts” before, and I’m always happy to hang with Asil. I’m intrigued who set him up on these dates, and I hope I’ll stumble across that tidbit as I continue my Mercyverse reread. Really fun story. Made me love Asil even more.

Only Read:

~ Close Knit by Nina Kiriki Hoffman - 4*- The style of hers I love so much is well represented in this short story. A father with "family magic" can send out tendrils to nurture the connection or encourage talking for example. He is a good father and very much loves his family but his wife senses something and kicks him out. Living back in his parent's home while they work things out, shows him how controlling/manipulating this "family magic" can be. Both his parents also have it. Can he fix his overstepping and get his family back?

~ The Longest Night by Mercedes Lackey - DNF - Others say if you get past the info dump it's a good story. I couldn't get past the info dump.

~ Santa's Mortuary by Heather Graham - 2* - Ghosts are touching guests in a very old, currently run as bed & breakfast, large house. The owner calls old, ghost hunting, FBI friends to help. It ended up having a romance element for the ghosts. Not my type of story and I am not fond of author's writing style. Lot's of this was said by me; "who is this character? Were they the one that said/did that thing a few pages before?" I will skip anything else I come across by her.

~ Unappreciated Gifts (2014) by Patricia Briggs - 5* - this is a short story in a well established UF world. It was a fun read and makes me want to read the other books in this world. "
