Anesthesia: A Very Short Introduction par Aidan O'Donnell
Fine -- wanted a bit more pharmacology, but still excellent as most the VSI series are. Of note: the famous 'etherdome' experiment at MGH was tried first with Nitrous Oxide. The patient groaned (although he was anesthetized) and the dentist fled in disgrace and later, tragically, killed himself.
