An interesting, well-written story, but I'm not sure if it would be exciting enough for its intended audience. The epilogue gives a brief history of the Galveston Plan, meant to bring young Jewish men from Eastern Europe to settle in the western part of the United States.

After their grandfather comes to live with their family, he finally tells his two grandsons about his early life:
He leaves his shtetl in Poland/Lithuania/Russia (depending on the year) to avoid being drafted into the Russian army and makes his way via Germany to America. When he arrives in Galveston, Texas (!), he is met by Isaac Weiss of the Jewish Immigrants Information Bureau, who equips him to become a cowboy with new clothes, some money, and a new name, Mike Benson. Benson describes his life on a ranch and a cattle drive to Kansas City, where he happens to meet a Jewish man, who invites him to his house for a Kosher meal; Mike works in his hardware store and eventually marries his daughter.… (plus d'informations)

When their grandfather moves in with them, Bill and Danny are off put by his habits, but are then fascinated by his stories of immigration from Russia and work as a cowboy in Texas.
