A perfect Halloween story for sensitive little ones, children who have very vivid imaginations, and lack the maturity to feel happy at what can be scary to them when they're out in the dark.

I was especially enchanted with the zen appeal of delicate illustrations.
Byron Eggenschwiler excelled at conveying an atmospheric feel of both the ethereal ghosts and the trick-or-treating humans without swamping the story.

There once was a little ghost who was a quilt. While most ghosts are white sheets, including his mom and dad, this little ghost was a beautiful patchwork of squares. The little ghost who was a quilt was frustrated because he just wanted to be like other ghosts. He couldn't even fly as fast as them because his quilt was too heavy. However, there was one special day that made him happy every year, and that day was Halloween. And this year something special happened that made him the talk of the other ghosts.

The Bottom Line: Sometimes it's difficult to be different. However, as the little ghost who was a quilt found out, sometimes being different can be a gift too. Beautiful illustrations by Byron Eggenschwiler accompany this sweet tale of self-discovery, diversity, and gratitude. Highly recommended for little ghosts everywhere.

All of the other ghosts are sheets, but this ghost is a quilt. They don't know why, and they don't like being different - but being different ultimately leads to adventure, and a good story to tell.

The little ghost was a quilt and everyone else was a sheet. The little ghost felt out of place and different, he just wanted to be "normal". On night he was used to keep a little girl cozy and became her blanket. The little ghost felt appreciated and seen. Tis is a great book to show on Halloween because it has themes of self acceptance, bravery, and kindness.
