Based on the book by Norton Juster
An earnest effort to communicate the suffering and tragedy endured by the Jewish residents of the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. I appreciated the information communicated about conditions in the ghetto and the way the characters resisted. But when it comes to plays, I'm not a fan of being told things that I could be shown, and if I ever saw this performed I'm not sure I wouldn't grow weary as the work devolves into a series of monologues by various characters telling how they died.
Mission to World War II stands apart from earlier entries of the series for two reasons: One, the artwork is exceptional. The black and white watercolor prints perfectly capture the early 1940s war era. The scenes with the Nazi soldiers are almost menacing. And, two, many of the books including this one have at least one regular character (other than you) that shows up throughout the book. It's a time travel story so, in effect, you keep bumping into each other at different points in time. Plus, it's sort of like having a friend along for the ride while also serving as a familiar narrative anchor.… (plus d'informations)
