I've always wondered what it was about the Mona Lisa that made it so beloved? popular? Reading this fictionalized historical account of its theft helps me understand better now. It was plastered in all the papers of the world at the time of its theft---and its return probably was, as well.

This was a really fun book. I'd not checked out a book from the public library in forever and hadn't read a fiction in a really long time, but when I was in with my kids the other day, I decided to grab this spontaneously. I'm so glad I did! Other than a few curse words, it was pretty clean.

Favorite quote: (Upon hearing his friend say, "A man must make a living,") Apollinaire says, "A man must create a life. There's a big difference."

I won this book from Firstreads. The mix between mystery and historical fiction worked for me. I also liked that it was told from the point of view of the thief.

Quite a fun and exciting romp taking you from the streets of Buenos Aires to the museums and boulevards of Paris with a side-step to the mansions of America's elite nouveau riche. A few times there were details presented that did not seem to fit in unless you were piecing them together within the story later on. I think some of that was unnecessary, distracting from the story instead of adding to it. Overall, a nice well-done story.… (plus d'informations)

Fun novel with fun characters. You gotta love Edwardo De Valfierno and the way he fleeces boorish American millionaire Joshua Hart. And as a critic wrote 'If the theft of the Mona Lisa didn't actually happen this way, one kind of wishes that it had."
