I read this for the "An Author You Previously Disliked" part of my 2020 reading challenge. It was better than the last book I read, it displayed the information better and had a nicer layout. It was informative, but not overly gripping.

The US edition changes the spelling to "Theater" from the English "Theatre". This book was published when the new Globe was under construction. It tells a brief history of the theatre, with special focus on the development of theatre in the middle ages and up through Shakespeare's time. The featured illustration is of the Globe, rather disastrously on fire. It lasted for 15 years and burned down rather near the end of Shakespeare's career. Includes some nice illustrated maps, and cutaways of theatre interiors.… (plus d'informations)
