A reasonably well written account of a curious moment in WWII. The French homeland was in German hands, and there was the possibility that the Germans, recently having seized Crete, would leap-frog into Syria, and mount an offensive against the Suez Canal from the North. The colonial Government of Syrian wouldn't declare for the Free french, and an invasion was mounted out of Iraq and Palestine by the Allies. Aside from a chapter in William Slim's "Unofficial History", and the relevant chapter in the Official British army History of WWII, this is the only book I've found on this campaign. reread in 2017.… (plus d'informations)

This is a nice modern retelling of the Arthur legend. It is suitable for pre-teens, but also reads well for adults. I read this to both of my children when they were about 10 years old and they both enjoyed it immensely.

The story closely follows Malory (if only the same could be said for the current BBC TV programme, Merlin!), but also draws on elements of the Mabinogion, with bits of T.H. White and Tolkien skillfully worked in for good measure.

The story is nicely complimented by both line drawings for the chapter headings and colour plates interspersed within the chapters.
