Short, depressing, and lacking in detail or characterisation. Meh.

A dystopian world with great disparity between the wealthy and those that are not is created by this author. I believe the book is geared to teens though there is much dark and rather horrible that happens within its pages.

A fourteen year old girl and her sister are caught by “hunters” and separated to begin living a life completely different from the one they once had. The value of life is little if you are not wealthy and most of the poor are treated as objects or slaves and are considered there only for the enjoyment of those with power, prestige or money. There are rebels and eventually a big finale to the book that made me wonder if there might be more in this series since I would like to find out what happens to Nadia, her sister Mila, Colby – the young man that she meets while escaping her fate worse than death, and Percy – the hunter with a flawed character that might be redeemable.

The book had a great story line and intriguing characters and settings but would have benefited from a bit more editing

I received this book through a LibraryThing giveaway.
