Tricia Mingerink has a way of writing intense scenes with authentic emotional impact. She demonstrated that in her Blades of Acktar series, and she brings her skill to this one as well. The plot twists were unexpected, and the character relationships were believable and multifaceted. I really liked how Daemyn's devotion was portrayed, and how Alex grew as a person. There were several scenes that I'd describe as breathtaking.

Nearly the entire time, I was convinced the author was going a certain direction with a particular marriage alliance, and all my expectations were shattered by one page. I'm still unsure how I feel about it. But I'm excited to see where the author takes this, as some hints were dropped in this book that make me want the next book so bad.… (plus d'informations)

It is clearly not your classical Cinderella, but I'm pretty sure that is the point. It's not the best stand alone story, but it isn't necessary to read the first one first. I didn't.
I really liked that the chapter titles are the names of that chapters main character.

4.5 Stars

This book had Daniel all through it, and I loved it! Leith was by far my favorite, with Renna coming in as Second and Shad third. Can't wait for book 2!

I disagree strongly with her depiction of Salvation as it made it sound like Jesus only died for a chosen few, while the Bible clearly states that He died for everyone who ever lived or will live. Other than this, she was spot on!

I loved the medieval flair of this story and how even though it was fantasy, it was realistic, and no magic was involved, which added points in its favor.

I am highly looking forward to book 2...and finding out what happens with Martyn!
