Critiques

This book begins with an explanation of landscaping zones, and goes into “The ABCs of Native Plant Landscaping.” It then is divided into ground covers, vines, cacti, wildflowers, and landscaping that attracts wildlife such as butterflies. Profiles of plants discussed in those sections get thumbnail coverage at the end of the book, in which you will find a profile, and quick facts about distribution, size, period of growth, flowering, light and water needs, and propagation.

The book has plenty of pictures but they are small and it is not always easy to detect distinguishing features of the plants.

This book provides a good overview of desert landscaping though, especially for the beginner.

I suppose I might be a bit prejudiced against this book, since I'm not enamored of gardening books, preferring the books about native plants in the wild. But at least this gardening book does address native plants.
