Internationally known, bestselling author of the 'Love Is In The earth' series, Melody was born in Cumberland, Maryland, and now resides in the Rocky Mountain Region. She is a scientist and holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in mathematics. She has been working with stones since she was a child, always evidencing an interest in the geological and mystical propertes of these children of Mother Earth. Due to the desire to share her research and knowledge with her brothers and sisters of the planet, and due to the need to make the information available at the onset of the Age of Love, she has updated this original reference book (1991) for release in 1995. In addition to her work within the United States, she has taught crystal workships in Brasil, the Republic of South Africa, and Australia, and has held private consultations in India and Nepal.

Internationally known, bestselling author of the 'Love Is In The earth' series. Melody holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in mathematics. Born in Cumberland, Maryland, she is a scientist residing in Colorado, and has taught workshops and has held private consultations throughout the world. In thie spirit of Love, Melody has prepared this supplement containing 'new' minerals, and is assisting others to recognize the perfection of All That Is.

Jim Hughes (photographer) and Julianne Guilbault (illustrator) are both internationally known for their creativity and originality. Born in South Carolina, Jim is a graduate of the US Army Signal, New York Institute, and West German Leica Schools of Photography; he own and operates a photography studio in Colorado. Julianne, born in Washington, has illustrated the entire 'Love is in the Earth' series, is an administrator for an engineering consuting firm, and has been involved in the graphics design realms for twenty-five years.

This particular 'Melody Book' (other Melody books cover other 'facets' of stones... like color pictures, application of stones, etc.), is about as comprehensive a book as one could hope for, regarding the metaphysical properties of particular crystals and stones. It's very rare that you'll find a type of stone (no matter how obscure) that isn't listed here.

My only beef with it is that stones are more individualized with what they're suited for, than Melody would have you believe. (For instance, all of a certain kind of amethysts aren't suited for exactly the same thing, and the same goes true for all of any kind of stone...

Still, it is pretty much 'the encyclopedia'. (I'd also highly recommend, 'Stone Empowerment', by Jane Hightower... Not as comprehensive, in terms of covering 'all the stones', but it has practical info (including cautions) that simply doesn't exist in the Melody books.-energitic healer

This book has MANY things going for it.

the author discusses various types of crysyals (clusters, dendric, gateway, generator, manifestation, obelisk, etc).

Then goes on to other sections (acquiring, dedication, cleansing, awakening, charging, programming, meditation, protection, making elixirs, etc).

Then the larger portion of the book is used to list the properties of hundreds of different kinds or stones. The author even goes so far to list the astrological sign, and which number the stones are associated with.

This book is an incredible resource for information about crystals; but I have three little nitpicks.

1. The Author lists the use of salt water to cleanse your crystals on page 54. I do not recommend this method because salt is a corrosive agent, and repeated cleansing in salt water could break down the lattice structure of crystals.

I DO recommend cleansing stones by the following methods.

a. smudging them in the smoke of a purifying herb or incense.

b. placing the crystals in sunlight.

c. burrying them in the ground so the negative energies can be transmuted.

2. I wish the author had listed the hardness of the assorted stones. This way you could use assorted stones of similar hardness so they did not damage one another. It would not be wise to carry a peice of Clear Quartz in a pocket with a peice of Moldavite. Moldavite is only 5.5 on the hardness scale where Quartz is a 7.0, Boji stones are 7.4. Ruby is 9, and Diamond is 10.

3. This book with 700 pages is quite difficult to hold and read. So I would recommend that you read about the first 100 pages that discusses the assorted types of crystals, programming crystals, cleansing crystals, etc; then set the book on the shelf and use it as a reference guide when you want to find the properties of the assorted crystals as you acquire them.

Aloha nui loa (I love you very much)-W. Lambdin

This marvellous reference work tells you everything about the metaphysical properties and use of crystals.

The chapter Configurations describes the shapes and structures of the mineral kingdom, from the Ankh to the Window Crystal. There are chapters on Numerical Vibrations, Master Numbers and Preparatory Methodology, which serve as guides for those who wish to speed up their progress on the spiritual path. The last mentioned chapter deals with acquiring, dedicating, cleansing, awakening, charging and programming your crystals.

The chapter Practical Applications provides information on crystal meditation, protection, elixirs and how to treat food, plants, your car and your aura with crystals. The chapter Additional Definitions serves as a glossary of terms, from Akashic Records to Yin-Yang.

The main body of the book consists of an alphabetical list of crystals and their properties, from Acanthite to Zunyite. Here the appearance of the stone and its metaphysical and healing qualities are discussed. Astrological correspondences and numbers are also provided.

The book has a beautiful cover painting, Crystals Of Life, by Charley Berryhill and concludes with a thorough index. It is a very useful and extensive guide to crystals. My only complaint is the lack of photographs or illustrations that would facilitate the identification of individual stones.-Pieter Uys

I have time and again had this publication noted to me from members of the crystal healing community, and time and again have had to warn same said NOT to take the advice from this book and apply it, especially when it came to the 'elixer' recommendations. Minerals can be poisonous, some that are not in theory are still not pure and they do not develop in a pure environment. There are common associated minerals which will vary from location to location, and while some may be harmless, others are far from it.

Melody does not have understanding of basic chemistry, let alone the knowledge or understanding to account for impurities or associations (often not visible to the naked eye), and many of her 'elixer' recommendations are not only unhealthy but a few are quite deadly. Take Eastonite for one, a silicate mineral which, by in large, will pass though the digestive tract with a similar effect to a hand full of glass beads, no interaction whatsoever with 'pure' Eastonite. But there is no such thing as 'Pure' Eastonite except on paper, the idealized description of this mineral. All Eastonite available on the market comes from one locality, Easton Pennsylvania, a deposit which is well known for it's Highly radioactive suite of minerals with which Easonite is often enough found in direct association with.

Drink an Eastionite elixer and odds are far too good you will also give yourself a heavy dose of radioactive poisoning, while gaining no effect what so ever from a silicate mineral such as 'Eastonite'. A fools'paradise'? Someone suffering radiation poisoning is, simply put, not a pretty way to go.

Had this book been reviewed with any thought to health concerns, a good portion of it would not have been published. I might add that if 'efficacy' had been a concern, this book would not have even gone to press, but I know that sound scientific principles hold no sway with the crystal healing community. I at least hope that most members of this community have not gone so far down this path as to not believe that poison is 'real' and that they at least still understand that dosing radioactivity is very bad for their bodies.

Melody's pub is dangerous territory for the uninformed, and it scares the hell out of me to realize how many people actually consider it their 'Bible'. (non-spiritual reference here).-M. Heintzelman

This book is not recommended as far as the attributes of crystals, and does a dis-service. If you will read Melody's books, you'll understand why there are so many vaiables attached to any one crystal (the meanings go on and on and on). It's because Melody believes in positive thought and believes that by positive thought, everything good will occur and nothing bad will happen, which is okay but there must be a factual element involved too. This is a book about positive thought and not crystals. It was written by someone without a degree in mineralogy or crystology, and she could have used pebbles outside to achieve the purpose that she is promoting.

Concerning the book, the scientific information is somewhat accurate because this information is from R. Jackson or other geological texts. Melody has no degree at all in mineralogy and only believes in one thing. She could have used examples of refrigerators instead of crystals, it really makes no difference. It is not truth, and please be a bit discerning as to what is in this book. It is not truth by even the far sense of the word.-watchfulbeliever

Truly an encyclopedia, copiously illustrated with full color photographs of specimens, this work covers 25 years of the author's personal research from working with the crystals.

This is my go- to book on the metaphysical properties of crystals!! There is no better book than this that has been written in the English language! A MUST own! Very highly recommended ;-)
