Osprey's Campaign Series has for years been producing excellent introductory accounts of battles and campaigns. This book is no exception to that, but it is a cut above most of the others. Besides being a great short account of these two naval battles, it is also quite moving in its description of the fate of Cradock and his men, more so than most other accounts.

Very well written campaign book on the fates of Varus and Legions XVII, XIIX, and XIX. I enjoyed the authors writing style more so than others in the campaign series, will have to keep an eye out for other books he's written in areas of my interest.

The most up to date narrative of what many call, 'Irelands Gettysberg'; no so much in the context of casualty numbers but the devastating effect it had on Ireland for the next 320 years. Ireland would never field an army of this quantity under her own control. Good read, clear, concise, well illustrated with a balanced discourse on the various confederacies that dog Irish political and social life.
