McKinstry writes well, but this book seems far far weaker than the Spitfire/Hurricane/Lancaster trilogy. Policy or public statements are taken as if they represent actual events, and intentions are treated as if they actually occurred.

A fine book, enjoyed reading it. And I guess that the author with this book rams it home that the iconic Spitfire did not win the Battle of Britain on its own

I already had fragments of information floating around in the back of my head about the Hurricane having a 'second life' as tank buster in North Africa. But to what extend - and where else - it was used, I did not know.

Highly recommendable

A brilliant, and thrilling account that is very readable yet exhaustative too, of the history, development and active service of the Hawker Hurricane. Whilst not as recognised as the iconic Spitfire, the author argues that this plane deserves as much as a share in the limelight as the Spitfire. It is the only plane that served in every theatre of the war, supporting British forces. More importantly, it was its role in the battle of Britian, the author argues, where it became invaluable is seeing off the nazi invader and making them seem less than invincible, and perhaps gave hope to the fact that eventual victory would be on the side of the Allies. A very interesting, well written and involving account. Well worth checking out, especially if you've read the other books in Leo McKinstrys series.… (plus d'informations)
