This was disappointing. The style of humor was low-to-middling (barely there, most of the time, and occasionally expressed as silly proper nouns for places and people). A bit juvenile, really (and this comes from someone who loves reading children's books, so long as they're of sufficient quality. Eventually I realised the tedium would not end and I'd rather move on to something else--there are a finite number of books I can read, and an increasingly large quantity of books I'd like to try, so I feel no compunction whatsoever of dropping a novel midway through. I this case, it was about the 20% mark when I decided it would not improve.

If you think Terry Pratchett or the Thraxas novels are too clever and confusing for you, try Hero Wanted, otherwise, don't. Even the Myth, Inc books offer better humor and better quality writing, without taxing the brain too much.

(Note: 5 stars = rare and amazing, 4 = quite good book, 3 = a decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. There are a lot of 4s and 3s in the world!)

I laughed so hard, grog came out of my nose! Love, love, LOVE this book, and look forward to my memory of it fading enough so I can read it again! (I drove everyone else in the family crazy while I was reading it by sporadically laughing hysterically and then shouting out, "Listen to this!"...followed, of course, by reading an excerpt.) Dan McGirt is the kind of storyteller and humorist that we all would like to be, with enough wit for a dozen authors, and I dare say all of his books are this much fun. If I had to sum it up in just a few words, I would call his style "Wry Wit with an added dash of Irony." Enjoy!… (plus d'informations)

Hero Wanted is certainly very different from any other fantasy novel I've read. It took me a while to get get used to the quirky writing style, but it wasn't long before I was completely immersed in the story. This book takes the classic plot of ordinary man turned hero and adds twists galore, resulting in a highly entertaining read that is difficult to put down. I found the writing style refreshing, the characters believable and the story charming. Overall, I found Hero Wanted to be a captivating read and I am looking forward to the other books in the series.… (plus d'informations)

If you enjoyed Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you will love this comical fantasy story of Jason Cosmo. A woodcutter by trade, forced to be a hero by destiny and possibly a case of mistaken identity. As Jason flees his hometown of Lower Hicksnittle, he finds unlikely allies in a wizard, Mercury Boltblaster, and the seductive twins, Sapphrina and Rubis. A very entertaining tale with all the classic fantasy elements.
