Gr 4–8—In a tone that's consistently friendly, McAnulty deftly conveys many weighty ideas from mathematics and
philosophy that underpin the search for intelligent life outside Earth. Cheerful illustrations, sidebars, and boxes of
"fun facts" will appeal to a wide range of readers.

Ivy Stewart dreams of being a Supreme Court Justice, like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and works harder than anyone to achieve this goal. She seeks West Archer Academy as the best school, where she can graduate in two years and then attend college and law school, on her way to be a judge. Taking the entrance exam, Ivy receives a test with the answers faintly marked. Freaking out, she finishes the test, making sure to miss two questions, and completes all of the questions herself to ensure that she possesses the knowledge and skills to attend this elite school. Previously, Ivy met a girl who plans on attending the school, but the girl mistakenly calls her Grace. The girl, Abigail, insists that Ivy looks just like her friend whom she greatly misses.

Ronan narrates other chapters. He does little in school and Ivy is surprised that he also seeks entrance into West Archer Academy. Ronan wants to get away from his family and not be known as the son of a psychic. As he leaves, he discovers that he may be a psychic as well; he'll know on his 13th birthday. Well, it takes three extra days, but he is psychic. Surprising Ivy, Ronan works hard, does his homework, and they end of working together. He tells Ivy his secret, but she can't tell him her secret, as it isn't her secret to share.

Ivy learns that her roommate lost her best friend Grace decades ago. That's no possible. They're twelve years old! Abigail cannot age, for she is an Ever. Evers can die, but they live for centuries, regenerating every night and never aging. Abigail believes Ivy may have the answers concerning Grace's disappearance because they look so much alike.

It's here where everything takes off. Ivy meets the other three Evers and strives to help with the mystery of Grace. Meanwhile Ronan completely stresses out over being psychic. He refuses to touch anyone for fear of seeing something about his/her future. Eventually, Ronana's sight and the mystery of Grace crash together, changing Ivy's course in life.

Overall, it's not a bad book. It brings up an interesting question in regards to "Would you rather....?" It's the first book in a series, so be aware that you'll be left hanging a wee bit!
